McDonald’s economic footprint in Romania

Thursday 26th February 2026

First local study conducted by McDonald’s with Oxford Economics highlights the company’s role in supporting the national economy through employment, investments, and strong local partnerships

Together with Oxford Economics, we conducted our first local socio-economic impact assessment in Romania, covering 2024. The findings underline our role in supporting the national economy through job creation, continued investment and long-standing local partnerships.

According to the Oxford Economics analysis, McDonald’s activities in Romania generated a total contribution of €360 million to Romania’s GDP, through direct, indirect and induced impact. For every €1 million generated directly by McDonald’s in GDP, the Romanian economy benefited from an additional €1.1 million in GDP across Romania.

Our study shows the significant role McDonald’s plays in supporting local communities across Romania by creating jobs, development investments, and collaborating with local suppliers,” said Stephen Foreman, Associate Director, Oxford Economics.

The company generated tax contributions of €97 million, equivalent to the annual salaries of approximately 4,580 primary school teachers.

Beyond the numbers, McDonald’s impact is visible in the communities we serve, through the jobs we offer and the long-term career paths many of our employees build with us. We aim to be a place that welcomes everyone, providing experiences that bring moments of joy to our customers, and supporting local communities where it is needed most, including as a mission partner of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Continued investment in expanding our network, strong local partnerships, new professional opportunities and social initiatives remain key priorities for the future,” stated Valentin Truță, Managing Director, Premier Restaurants Romania.
